Hello from Camp!

I don't have any photos from camp yet, but I arrived yesterday and I am moved in pretty much. We have quite the ant population in the kitchen of the camper, but I put some Terro out and it seems to be doing the trick. I am a bit grossed out cause you are supposed to let the ants eat it and bring it back to the colony. The ants gather around the Terro and eat it like a herd of cows at a trough. I want to squish all those little buggers so bad! But I am just trying to stay out of the kitchen until they leave. Yesterday was a long, tiring day. I got the last of the stuff moved down, but also had to move the dogs to my Mom's house where they will stay while I am gone. After church last night, it was my first night as fry gal at the snack bar. By the time I got done there, went to check on the dogs one last time, showered and got into bed, it was midnight. Then thunder and lightening woke me up in the night, and I laid there wondering if Cody was okay in his bunk next door, and if the dogs were keeping my dad up, as Harley is petrified in a storm. THEN I woke up to a deflated air mattress and sore hips from sleeping on a box spring all night. It was lovely! I got up this am and went and fed Brodie and Harley and then helped register 35 kids for VBS! And here I am! My daycare kiddo was supposed to come and stay with me today, but there was a change in plans, so I am on my own. I will try to take some photos around the grounds today so everyone can see what an old fashioned "camp grounds" looks like! Have a great day!

Check out my new Buzz and Bloom project!

I know, I know, I have been gone for a week! It was either listen to me gripe, whine and complain, or just have peace and quiet. I chose the latter! I have been kinda bummed, but have also been very busy working outside, and just dealing with everyday matters. I did complete my new Buzz and Bloom project for the month. It is a layout I did for a color challenge. You can see the entire piece by clicking HERE

Fresh Strawberry Pie

Strawberry season is upon us in Northern NY! Mom, Cody and I went to Burke last week and got 14 quarts between us. Not bad for an hour picking! I will freeze some for Strawberry Pretzel Salad, but one thing I like to do with fresh berries is the Fresh Strawberry Pie that my Grandma Brooks used to make. I remember being very small (she passed when I was 10) and being in her kitchen at a family dinner and having her put that pie in front of me. Me, being a very picky eater, could not believe this was how beautiful this pie was, and how good it tasted. No rhubarb, no mincemeat, etc. My aunt gave me the recipe years later after I had been married, and now I make it every summer, for me, and for my Daddy-to remind us of Grandma Brooks. So here is the recipe, it is very simple--and oh, so good with home made whipped cream!

Fresh Strawberry Pie

1 quart strawberries
1 cup sugar
3 T. cornstarch
3 T. strawberry Jell-O powder
1 cup boiling water
baked pie shell, or graham cracker crust

Mix well sugar and cornstarch.
Add boiling water, cook until mixture
comes to a boil, and thickens. It will
change from foggy to clear. Remove from
heat and add dry Jell-O. Chill completely
in sink of cold water and ice. Pour over sliced
strawberries than have been placed in a pie
crust.
Serve with whipped cream, if desired.

Have a great day!

New Buzz and Bloom Projects Are Up!

If you would like to see my latest creations for Buzz and Bloom, click HERE.
I created a Happy Birthday card, and a cute layout of Cody with one of his catches.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day. The weather here was picture perfect. Unfortunately, we didn't get as much done as I would have liked, but the cottage is now in one piece, with the addition now hooked back on the main room. Today, Peter and I will put the rafters and roof back on. We found a problem in camper, though. Seems when Peter went down to shovel snow off the roof this winter, he accidentally made a hole with the snow shovel, and rain had leaked into the ceiling above my bed and staturated the entire ceiling, and my mattress below. There is no saving this mattress! We had to rip the entire ceiling out, so hopefully it will dry out. Then we can patch the hole, put a new ceiling up,and find a mattress!! If it isn't one thing, it is another! But we had a great meal with Mom and Daddy and had some great breaks with visits from friends. It was a great day!
Have a good weekend-and wish me luck on my first roofing job!!

Good morning! Thought I would share with you all my son's new look! He has been talking about blue hair ever since before school got out. I finally gave in to him and we got the stuff we needed on Friday. Blue dye is not exactly the neatest stuff to deal with!! We had to bleach it up twice, then add the blue. It took a couple of hours from beginning to end! He is pleased with how it turned out, and I guess as far a blue hair goes, it does look good! The color is even, etc.
And of course, Brodie wanted to say "'hey!" Cody snapped this photo of her a couple of days ago. Have a great Tuesday!
