Sad News...

We got a call yesterday morning, that Grandma Omi took a fall in the nursing home. This is not the first time she has fallen. One other time she was banged up pretty bad, two other times she suffered severe skin lacerations, once on her head, once on her forearm. Ya see, she suffered a stroke, and even though she can't talk now, she didn't suffer any paralysis. She is not all that light on her feet anymore, though, but she forgets and tries to get up. And falls....every time! After the first few times it happened, and the nursing home staff kept insisting that they could not restrain her, my Mom looked into it more and they did concede and give her a buddy cushion. Basically, it is a cushion that sits across her lap in her wheelchair, and has grooves cut out of the ends of it, that fit around the arms of the wheelchair, allowing Grandma to sit comfortably and scoot around, without being able to get up and fall. It has worked well for a year and a half. Unfortunately, a worker at the home saw someone else with a need for the buddy cushion and took it from Omi. They gave her a different one, that was made to fit a wider wheelchair, and Grandma took it off cause it didn't fit correctly, got up, and fell.
Omi has a broken left wrist, and a broken pelvis. Cody and I went with Mom to see her today. My heart is just breaking for her. She is almost 88, so frail, and so sick of being like this. Apparently, a person from the nursing home has been suspended, but rest assured, Mom had them quaking in their boots today. They are pretty meek today at the nursing home. This need not have happened!! I ask you to please remember Omi by lifting her up in prayer. She cannot talk, and her being able to feel the love of Christ would give her some comfort. It was so hard to leave her there today, she looks so tiny, frail, and defeated in that bed.
Here is a pic of Grandma Omi (Naomi) before her stroke:

Oh my-- I'm so sorry to hear this. My grandma was always getting into scrapes or mischief at the nursing home, but it was never because of their negligence, just her "ornery-ness." I'm glad your Mom gave them heck; they deserved it!

Sending good thoughts to Omi and your family.

And btw, I would never have guessed from her picture that she's 88!

Oh Keri.. My heart goes out to you darling... How very sad and unfortunate... Your Grandma is very fortunate to have a loving daughter and granddaughter watching out for her - and yes, the nursing home folks should be hanging their heads in shame...

Hugs...

So sorry to hear about your grandma. That's awful that they took away something of hers to give it to someone else. My grandmother had a lot of problems in her nursing home as well.

I'm so sorry about your grandmother. It is so hard to watch your loved ones get feeble and unable to care for themselves. I will keep her in my prayers.
